Laughter makes learning more effective!

Training

Its 3.30pm and the graveyard shift is kicking in…

Lunch plus snacks are taking their toll as well as the feast of models, concepts, roleplays, brainstorms – everybody’s getting tired so we all resort to an “energizer”. My favourite has always been Giants, Wizards and Dwarves – a dramatic version of Paper/Scissors/Stone that is 100% silly, addictive and impossible not to join in! Even the most cynical delegates cannot help roaring like a giant when the pressure is on! And it works. The energy rises, and you can make good use of the next 90 minutes. In addition, I believe, it helps people remember what you taught them.

Preacher Carl W. Buehner once said:

They may forget what you said — but they will never forget how you made them feel.

Simply put, a skilled communicator should be aware of the emotional valence of their words. Laughter is precious. Science has shown that there is a chemical reaction that comes with laughing that is totally nourishing mentally and physically.

Combining learning with entertainment

I’ve always tried to combine learning with entertainment not just because it keeps people awake, but because it actually means the learning works. It embeds the work emotionally and if we get that then we are metaphorically laughing all the way to the bank in terms of return on training investment!

Can we make your training more effective by injecting some fun into it? Drop us a line!
